Out of My Mind - chapters from the week of June 2nd

So, we have recently learned about Melody's experiences with taking the quizzes for the Whiz Kids competition. How did her experience with the practice test and the official try out test differ? Use specific details from the story to explain.

  1. On the practice test, Mr. D. told the class that if Melody could do 100% it, then the test must be too easy, even though nobody else got 100%. Melody's feelings were hurt, but she was determined to do good on the actual test. On the real test, Mr. D. said that she didn't want her feelings to be hurt (if she gets a bad grade, what a jerk) but she nailed the test, being the only one getting 100% and made it on the team, along with Connor, Claire, and Rose with the alternates of Rodney, Molly, and two sixth graders. Melody was very happy at the results of the second test and Mr. D. said that she was very smart.

  2. On the practice test she was accused of cheating and bullied by a teacher insulting Melody's intelligence. On the legitimate test, Melody was the only kid ever in history to get 100% on the test. She even beat Molly, one of her bullies.People under estimate Melody and what she can accomplish, she is no doubt the smartest kid in the school.

  3. Melody's practice test and official test both went very well. She got them all correct on both test. But, some students think that she is cheating, like they think Cathrin is whispering the answers to her. On the official test, Cathrin left and Melody still got them all right.Mr.D thought Melody should not take the test because he was afriad "her feelings would get hurt" nope. Melody got a hundred. When Melody took the original qiuz she got every one right, but was accused of guessing the answers and getting them coinicdently correct, while out scoring every other competetor. Mr. D was being a jerk to melody and said "Not to hurt your feelings but...." In the second quiz she got a perfect score out beating the opposing students once again. So Mr. D had apoligized to melody when she got the perfect score and was nominated to be in the wizz kid competion. He had said that they had underestimated her thinking skills and she proved that she shoud be on the wizz kids team!!!!!

  5. In the first quiz, Melody got a 100 but everyone thought is was a lucky accedent. Everyone underestimated her. In the story, Mr.D said," If Melody got a 100 on that quiz, you shouldve connor."(or something along those lines) The students also belived that catherine had helped her with the test, and that she cheated. But after the second quiz, which melody aced as well, every ont realived that she was actually a guenius dispite her disabilities. Once she was on the quiz team, every ont finnaly started noticing her, and thinking more of her than just another special needed kid. Even mr. D who had previously said she couldnt haldle it because it was too hard.

  6. During the practice test, Catherine (or Katherine) was by her side, which made many of the kids suspcious, whereas during the official test, Catherine left the room. Everyone, including the teacher, thought it was just a coincidence in the practice test, but they realized that she was actually very intelligent during the try out. Melody was more determined and nervous during the second one. Although Melody took Mr. Dimmings insult offensively the first time, his pleas for her to leave so she wouldn't get hurt made her more confident and determined during the try outs.

  7. The experience for the practice test for the Whiz Kids competition and the official test differ in many ways. When Melody was in Mr. Dimming's class for the practice test he, for the most part, did not seem to have a problem. Although, at the end of the test Mr. Dimming made the comment that "The practice test couldn't have been that hard since Melody got a perfect score." During the official test Mr. Dimming was not encouraging. He tried to talk Melody out of trying the test to get on the Whiz Kids team. Those are some of the ways that the practice test and the official test differs.

  8. Melody aced BOTH the tests, but each time she came home feeling differently and came into it differently. For the practice test, she took it and got 100%. The teacher gave her the promised Snickers bar but then he went on talking to the class saying that OBVIOUSLY if MELODY can do it then the questions were not HARD enough. Claire and Molly also accused Melody of just cheating by having Catherine giver her the answers. Melody went home and Mrs V. got her ready for the next test, pulling Melody out of the bad mood she had gotten home with. Melody came in the next time they held the test and was determined and ready. Even though Claire and Molly were trying to get her down by saying that she is not smart enough, she ignored them and addressed Mr.Dimmings. He kept trying to tell her nicely that he "didn't want her feelings hurt". She was clear and said that she was taking that test. I was really happy because even Rose spoke up and stuck up for Melody. The second time taking the test, Melody aced it again and got on the team.

  9. Meoldy's experience with the Whiz Kids copetion differ in many ways. One way being that they way she felt after the practive and offical tryouts. During the practice test Melody have gotten every single question right but many kids in her class took it negativily, even the teacher. They said that the questions were to easy if Melody got all the questions right. Meoldy has tooken the responce so negativly that she started to get very upset and grumpy and took it out on Ms. V and her little sister, Penny. In the offical try outs, Meoldy has once again gotten every question right without Catherine and the teacher has finally said that the class has mistaken this student and she has got on to the team. The begiing of each test even differed. Meoldy at the practice test was just their to try out the test, with Catherine by her side. Ine the offical try outs she didnt listen to the negative comments the other girls in her class had to say about her, she even talked back to her teacher when he said that she shouldnt attend this session. This time she was more confident than ever and nothingwas stopping her from getting onto the Whiz kids team. This is how the two evgent differed from one anouther.

  10. Melodys experience with taking the practice test and the official try out test differ in many ways. for starters, during the practice test she was accused for cheating because she has an aid that helps her in the class room, and kids thought she was helping melody on the test. after getting a perfect score even the teacher said that if melody could take the test and pass, the questions must be to easy for the class.on the day of the real try out test the teacher repeatedly said i dont want your feelings to be hurt. melody knew that she could take the test and replied, " im smart'' and " im strong i can take it". next one student said the aid would help her but the aid left the room and melody took the test by herself. she was the first one to score a perfect score on the test and the teacher appolgized over the loud speaker. thats how the practice and the final test differ from eachother.

  11. In the practice test (aka the first one) Melody was not very headstrong about this test and Mr. Dimming.test and got all the questions correct and recieved an 100%. But, Mr. Dimming and every other student doubted her abilities. Claire and Molly had suspicions about Katherine helping Melody. Also, Mr. Dimming thought that the questions were obviously too easy considering Melody Brooks could get them all right. In the actual real deal test melody was very assertive with Mr. Dimming. Mr. Dimming implied that Melody couldnt handle the test and didnt want her feelings to be hurt. Melody replied with " I'll be fine'' and "im smart" and when she aced the test Mr. dimming apoligized for his false judgment on Melodys abilities.

Melody's experience with the first Whiz Kid practice test wasn't very good, first she went in nervously and Claire and Molly thought that Catherine was helping her, and lastly Mr. D said that if Melody got all the questions right then they must have been easy and she left angry and sad. Melody's second experience for the official Whiz Kid try out was better, first she went in determined and ready, and Mr. D was saying that he doesn't want Melody's feelings to get hurt if she didn't get a good grade and didn't get in, but she said she could handle it. Melody even had Catherine leave when she took the test, lastly Mr. D said that the other kids in the room and even himself owed an apology to Melody for underestimating her, and Melody left happy.

  13. When Melody took the practice test she was feeling strong after what Mr. D said, which was," I don't feel it nesesary that Melody Brooks has to take this test'", Melody's response was," I'M STRONG"! I CAN DO IT"! She aced the practice test, everyone thought that Cathrine helped her, but know after she aced the real tryout quiz and made the team everone loves her.

  14. The practice test differs from the official try out test in many ways. The pracice test was the test in which Mr. Dimmings was okay about letting melody take. The students, including Melody, took the test and mr. dimmings reaed off the top 4 score the students acheived on the practice test. Melody wasnt on the list, but a moment later, mr.dimmings mentioned that there was one person who scored 100% on the test. Mr. Dimmings coughed a few times, attempted speaking, coughed a couple more times, then said the person who aced the test. That person, was Melody. Mr. dimmings sounded unconfident and confused when reading out that Melody got every question right. In the official try out test, Mr dimmings didnt want melody taking the test, saying he didnt want to hurt her feelings. Melody didnt care for what he said, she didnt resign and she took the test. Mr. Dimmings again read off the top 4 and coughed and failed during mid speech again. He coughed and failed in speech because once again, Melody had got all of the answers correct. Mr. Dimmings ended up apoligized for doubting her, saying that he was only trying to help her, but Melody didnt need his help. This was how the two tests differed from each other.

  15. Her experiences her different because when she did her practice test everyone had thought that Catherine had typed in the answers for her so that didn't make her feel goo and so she went home moody. so when she got to miss.V's house she had hit her sister, penny, accidentally and then she turned her meddy talker off and then Catherine had called miss.v's house and explained to her what had happened at school. So then melody and miss.v talked about it then her dad came home and penny was screaming and then the school came ans she came into class with determination and aced that test

  16. melody's experiences were not so good. At her practice test everyone said she had cheated. here peers said that cathrine had helped her with the answers. And everyone said if melody can get all the answers right then it must be easy. So melody went home grumpy and hit someone . and her teacher was being mean to her saying that i dont want to be mean but this test is hard and i dont want to hurt your feelings. But Melody was still confident about doing the test. her teacher said this is not fun and was being ignorinte the whole time.
when melody when for the test she was ready to ace the test but she was scared and everyone was making fun of her and she aced the test and the teacher said said I think we all owe melody apoligie because she made the team with a perfect grade .

  17. During the pretest, Melody was rocking her test and got 100%. She was told she got that because the test was easy and also because of a coincidence. During the actual test, she was accused of cheating (using Catherine for answers and using her computer to find answers), told she didn't belong there, and was told that the class wasn't for fun, it was for a real purpose. Also, the teacher's attitude toward Melody about her grade changed from bad to good. Finally, she felt different after each test. At the end of the pretest, she felt discouraged and upset. At the end of the real test she felt excited and joyful. One thing I noticed about this was that when the teacher's comment toward Melody was kind, she felt good afterward and when it was bad, she felt bad afterward. Those are the differences between the 2 tests and Melody's experiences with them.
