Think about the chapter that the SHS seniors read to us from
Out of My Mind. What mega/major plot development took place? How will this impact Melody? Please fully describe one way that this change will affect her. Be specific and clear with your thinking.
In Out of My Mind, Melody got her own, new laptop designed for people like her (people who cannot speak and have hands that don't work very well). She names the MediTalker Elvira, after her favorite song. Although she keeps the name to herself, the laptop is really special to her. This will impact her because she finally can talk. She can communicate with her friends and family. She'll finally have a voice in things. Instead of pointing to things on her talking board or making crazy movements, she can communicate easily with this device and finally has the chance to say "I love you" to her parents. This will change her life ENTIRELY.

In chapter 15, Melody ordered, waited for, and obtained her own computer. This computer is special, for the buttons are big enough for her thumbs to type. This computer, the Meditalker, allows Melody to type what the computer will say, and adds a variety of phrases, words, sentences, etc. I personally think that the Meditalker will do good because now she can give people her opinion on things and explain what she means when she grunts or screeches. Also, she won't have to be contained in her mind anymore. In short, i think the Meditalker is a great thing for Melody to have.
ReplyDeleteDuring chapter 15 melody had the biggest thrill ever. The major plot development that occurred during this chapter was that melody had finally found a way to talk using this special computer called the medi talker. This special machine will allow her to learn new words, new phrases, and talk using the medi talker. This will impact melody because it will give her a chance to communicate with other classmates and family. This will also affect the way how melody does her everyday stuff.
ReplyDeleteThe major plot development that took place in Melody's life is that she got to get a meddy talker computer. Which means now she can commutative with her family,friends,neighbors. This will impact Melody because the keys on her computer are big enough for her thumbs to type what she wants to say to everyone she knows.
ReplyDeleteThe major event that popped up in Out of my mind was melodys new meditalker. This gadget allows melody to speak her feelings through a computer. I think that this will impact Melody because she will be able to express her feelings and show how smart she is. Also, this machine allows Melody to have a real conversation with people and be able to laugh and joke with friends.
ReplyDeleteOne way that this whole change will affect Melody is how her Family life will change. Like it stated in the book, she had never spoken real words to her family . She had never told them how much she loved them. I remember thinking when i read the book that that would be one of the worst things, not being able to talk to her family. With Medi Talker, she can say "thank you" and " i love you" and just finally tell her mom what she would like to wear to school. She can talk to Penny now too and interact with her sister, whether its telling Penny to be quiet or how cute she is. Also she can prove to her family that she is smart and they can help her just as much as Mrs. V with vocab words and phrases. The Medi Talker will help Melody so much at Home and other places like school.

One way this will affect Melody is now she gets to talk to her parents, friends, and teachers.. When she first got the medi-talker she had a conversation with her parents for the first time in years.
ReplyDeleteThe main plot development was that Melody got a new keyboard device that gives her the ability to talk. Melody will have some ups and downs about this. I think Molly and Claire will make fun of her voice. But they may take it to and extreme and program bad words or even break it. When Melody walks into the class a few kids will rush over and check it out. While other kids like Claire and Molly will sit in the corners of the room and just laugh or speak under their breath. Her friends from H5 will love this new device.
ReplyDeleteThe big scene that took place during this chapter was that the medy talker was ordered and delivered to melody's house.I think this new modification into her life will affect her in many ways. But the big outcome is that she can finally express her thoughts and feelings. This is a good, as well as bad result though.The negative side to her expression of feelings is that now she has the ability to argue, say mean things, or become some one she is not because she feels that much better about her self. Being able to talk can also benifit her life because she can answer questions,ask questions, request things, comment ect.

This chapter was very powerful and impacts Melody in a great way! All that she has been trying to say to her parents happened in quote "I love you,". This will change her education and be easier for her, yet I am afraid that Claire and Molly will find a way to pick on her. Maybe call her names. - Emmy Comeau
ReplyDeleteThe major plot develpment that takes place in this chapter was that Melody finally got a machine called a Medi-talker. This had a great impact on Melody in many ways. one of those impacts were on her school career. Melody couldnt speak before resulting in why no one hangs out with her that much but Rose. But now that Melody has her own Medi-talker she now has her own free will to say anything she wants to people in her grade resulting in more friends than before. She also will get the oppertunity to say anything she wants to her new friends and have conversations with them which is something she has wanted ever since she was a little girl. ReplyDeleteMelody recieved a medi-talker named Elvira that can finally help her talk and express everthing shes been wanting to say all her life. this will impact her by letting her express herself, let her answer questions in class, talk to rose and any other freinds including her parents and Mrs.V. Also everything shes been holding back can finally be spoken which is good because other times it would result in a tornado attack, where she would flip out her arms and could not contain herself. Also, she can deal with Claire and Molly, well maybe they will realize how smart she really is. But not only them but everyone will finally notice how smart she actually is. Lastly her teacher will hear her out and stop treating her like someone way younger than her. Those are some reasons the medi-talker will help her.

She will be able to express herself to others such as her mom, her dad, rose,Mrs.v, and many others. She has never been able to communicate with others besides kicking her feet and flailing her body. This is going to change the ways others treat her, how others look at her, and maybe she'll be able to prove how smart and nice she really is. The kids in the inclusion program might treat her with much disrespect and make fun of her because of what she calls, elvira, which is the medi-talk.
ReplyDeleteThe Medi-talker was the mega/major plot development that took place in chapter 15. The Medi-talker will impact Melody greatly and in many ways. One being her social life. It will be the first time in her life she can actually communicate with family and friends. She will be able to have fun conversations with the kids at school, especially Rose and Catherine. As for her home, she will be able to speak with Mrs. V and her parents. She can even stand up for herself to Molly and Clare. This is the thing to share her thoughts and knowledge with the world all around her.

The mega/major plot development that took place during the last chapter was her getting the Alvirra Medi Talker. The Medi Talker will impact Melody by in the next chapter I'm predicting that the men girls Clare and Molly, next week in class will make fun of her. Another way this will affect her is with her parents. For example, at the end of the last chapter she said I love you to her parents. Her relationship with her parents will change greatly.
