The Revealers - isolation

Isolation also plays an important role in the book. How did each character experience isolation in the first half of the story? Do you think this made them easy targets? After the main characters found each other, explain how things began to change.

  1. Isolation played a very big role in the book for all three characters. For Russell he felt like he was cut off from everybody because he got picked on and bullied by Richie Tucker. He had no one there for him to stand up to Richie so he was an easy target. For Elliot, he was one of the kids who got bullied no matter what he did, they called him things like, Bird Boy because he liked dinosaurs. He had no friends until Russell came to him for advice on bullying because Elliot was considered a bully magnet or an easy target. Catalina was only picked on by the girl (mostly Bethany DeMere's group) They would leave her mean notes and she would have no one to brighten her up when she feels sad. This absolutely made all three of them very easy targets for the bullies. When they became friends with each other they began experimenting on the bullies. For example, Catalina and Elliot both posted stories about themselves on KidNet. One day after Elliot had posted three of the students in their grades stories, Jake Messner (one of the cool kids) said to them that he thought that The Revealers was really cool. I think that things for Elliot, Catalina, and Russell are going to start to improve.

  2. I think isolation plays an important role in the book. Russell, Elliot, and Catalina experienced isolation in the first half of the book because all of them had no friends. Also, everybody was in a clique except all of them. I think this made them easy targets for bullies because they have no one to back them up or to hang out with. When they all made their own little clique nobody was bullying them anymore and they all hung out with each other. Then they made a thing on KidNet and three kids sent their stories because they wanted Russell,Elliot, and Catalina to post their stories for them. The next day, this kid named Jake came up to them and he said The Revealer was pretty cool.

  3. Isolation is a big part in "The Revealers" for Catalina, Russell, and Elliot. For Russell he is isolated because he doesn't have any friends in the beginning and it is just him. Until he makes friends with Catalina and Russell. The reason in the beginning that he has no friends is that all his other friends from elementary school made other friends and joined cliques and Russell didn't go along with them. Next, Catalina is new so she is sort of shut out and doesn't have any friends towards the beginning of the book either because she is new to the school and she is from the Philippines and people like Bethany DeMere are being mean, rude, and cruel to her and making her look bad. Lastly, Eliot is like the bully magnet and he is bullied by everyone and it makes him look bad too. He is also nerdy and into dinosaurs which also made him isolated. Isolation is huge in this story and it is also huge with bullying!

  4. Isolation played a really big role in the book for Russell, Elliot, and Catalina. Elliot was known for being isolated. He was the kid that everyone in the school picked on him. Older kids and classmates would dump water in his backpack while he was wearing it, hung him by his underpants, also called him names such as Bird Boy. Elliot was an open target for bullies and a bully magnet, since he had no friends that could help stand up for him. That was until Russell came around looking for advice about bullies. Russell didn't have a group of friends or have any friends but he kept telling himself that all was well until he finally understood they were not. One day out of the blue Richie Tucker started to bully him and not just talk to him he would punch him! Russell figured out he needed some help and that was when he went to Elliot. Catalina was the new girl who always was tortured by a group of girls lead by one girl named Bethany DeMere. She was always writing notes to her saying extremely mean things. She had nobody to cheer her up though that was until Elliot and Russell found her. When they were all isolated they were absolutely easy targets. After they had all met each other thing most defiantly began to change they were not open targets anymore and the would fight and experiment with their experiences. The had all wrote stories about themselves and called themselves the Revealers and one kid named Jake Messner said he though that what they did was really cool.
