Chapter 19 - Release :(

Well. We have finally learned what Release really means. Why do you think the Giver encouraged Jonas to watch the smaller twin's Release? What else did we learn about Rosemary? What about the concept of bravery?

  1. Well, first of all I was right! I Knew it! The giver probs wanted Jonas to see it because he wanted him to see what they do, so he'll know about the communities inner flaws or whatever you wanna call it. Rosemary injected herself with the poison and she wasn't really afraid to do it. -A-town

  2. the giver probs wanted him to see it because he asked and maybe he just didn't want to tell him. we learned that rosemary injected the poison or whatever it is into herself and I think that she is the givers daughter.

  3. Well, the Giver probably wanted Jonas to see the twin's release because Jonas never knew what it really meant. (Oh my gosh, so sad.) Also, I agree with Ella, he didn't want to tell him. He wanted Jonas to learn this way. We learned that Rosemary, the old receiver-in-training applied to be released because she couldn't bare the pain. We also learned that she was the daughter of the Giver in chapter 20. :3 That is cray cray...

  4. I think the Giver encouraged Jonas to watch the release because he wanted him to know the truth. After all, he is the receiver. We learned that Rosemary was the former receiver in training who applied for release because she couldn't take all the pain that she was going through in the memories.

  5. I think The Giver encouraged Jonas to watch the tape of the twins' release so he would actually know the truth of this inhumane society. This brought insight of why Rosemary was such a big failure (In the community's mind.) I think this thickened the concept of bravery because you have to be brave to carry the burden as The Receiver.

  7. I think he had Jonas watch the releasing of the twin because he wanted him to understand what releasing was exactly. I think he also wanted him to watch it because he wanted Jonas to understand the feeling of loss that the Giver felt for Rosemary. Rosemary applied for release because as Jeff said, she couldn't bare the burden of a Receiver. So, she injected herself with poison like stuff that basically just killed her.....what a weird world....~Carol
