  1. In this chapter something that stuck out to me was when Melody made the Wiz Kids team! I marked this part of the book because I thought this was a great achievement for Melody. Mrs.V and Catherine had a huge impact on Melody's success. They helped Melody get ready for the test by quizzing her. Mrs.V asked Melody's dad if Melody could stay longer one night after school so they could study. They studied human bones, a list of words ending in "ology" like biology, capitols of major countries, and every U.S. state and their capitol. The next day at school, Catherine hooked Melody up on the earphones. She made Melody listen to old audio cassettes about volcanoes, tapes on Australia and Russia, planets, and constellations to get Melody ready for the test. This is probably why Melody got a perfect score on her test, because these two people really cared about her. If I were Melody, I would have freaked out when Mr Dimming called my name, just like Melody did because I would be so proud of myself and so excited that I got picked to be on the Wiz Kids team!! I am so happy for Melody because she tried so hard and studied a lot!! She deserves to be on the team!!

  3. A noteworthy passage I felt was on page 189-190 where she talked about the whole "earthquake thing." I mean what really jumped out at me was her excitement towards the whole thing. She felt like was going to "explode" so the paramedics need to come. You can really see her personality through this passage. Her heart is pounding at the suspense of the whose on the team. One thing that kind of took away from that moment was when Claire said "But...but...we'll look weird!" That just makes me realize that Claire will never realize that Melody is a person just like her. All she does is point out everything Melody does wrong. Like Claire doesn't have something wrong with her! Even after Catherine talks to her and Melody finally is able to communicate proving she is not just an empty shell of a person, Claire has NO change of heart whatsoever.

  4. The passage that I marked in the book was opposite to Madison's!!!!! I thought about what Melody felt like when Mr. D did not call out her name. I was so empathetic in this part of the story because I can just feel her blood rush from her head. I felt sooooo bad because she had worked and I mean worked for it! As she said in the story, "I studied at school every day with Catherine, after school everyday with Mrs. V, and every evening at home as well." When Melody heard the results, she knew that Mr. D was starting with the alternates, so if I got picked for that, I wouldn't know what to do. I would be happy, but if I was in Melody's conditions, I would want to show everyone that I am amazing. Just not the way that Conner does, because he is a little bit of a boaster. I am so proud that Melody actually made the team and I hope people stop underestimating her. If you would like to take a closer look at this part of the book, it is on page 188.

  5. A noteworthy passage that I found in chapter 21 was when Mr. D said that in all fifteen years of running this program he never seen anyone get a perfect score until Melody took the test. This stuck out to me because when Melody first took the practice test, she got all of the questions right and everybody accused her of cheating and that her aid helped her or that it was just all luck. When Melody walked in the room after school to take the real test everybody Including Mr. D didn't want her to take the test because she thought she would just embarrass herself and make her look bad. Then Mr. D said that Melody got all the questions right and that he was very proud of her.
