  1. Mr. Dimming is not really being a great influence on his students. He is not treating Melody like a teacher should. Mr. Dimming is saying things like,"You know, I don't think it's appropriate for Melody to be hear. This is not a recreational activity just for fun. The purpose of this meeting is to choose our official team," and," Melody, I don't want to get your feelings injured, the test is very hard.'' I think that is very disrespectful. But it is more heart breaking when he is talking about Melody and not even looking at her. How rude!!!! When I was reading this, I remembered that when I was littler, people would be talking about me to my mom and saying, " Ohh, she was being so silly and cute and when she fell down, I couldn't help laughing!" I would be embarrassed if I could hear people talking about me and I would pretend to not hear what they were saying, even if I was right next to them. When I was reading about Mr. Dimming, it annoyed me so much at how he was acting towards Melody. That part of the story striked me and I was extremely mad. I wish I was there to yell at Mr. Dimming. If I was with him. I would say," You can't judge a book by its cover and you can't judge a person be their looks. What's inside of them really matters. And how you are acting towards Melody is not ok. No matter what she looks like, even if she is a little different, you have to give everyone a chance, including yourself and Melody." I hope that would change his mind. But teachers are supposed to encourage good behavior to their students, not encourage being mean to people or judging them when you hardly know them. If teachers like Mr. Dimming encourage their students on this bad behavior, then more and more people will give no one a chance, and they might be mad and mean for the rest of their life. Do you see what I'm trying to get at?I hope more people start giving Melody a chance. Elena and Rose are really the only ones being nice to Melody. I think that Mr. Dimming should give more people a chance. Imagine how Melody is feeling. I hope Mr. Dimming realizes he way underestimated Melody. Melody is so smart and she is lucky to have that in her. Melody is awesome who she is, and she should never listen to people like Mr. Dimming. If she does, she should show that person all the spectacular things she can do.

  3. In chapter 20 many eventful things happened. Such as when Melody comes into Mr. D's class and is ready to take the test. Mr. D was very shocked that Melody wanted to take the test and said "This is not a recreational activity just for fun." When he said that it really fired Melody up. So she worked it out and stuck up for her self and said that she is here to take the test like all the other kids. I noticed that Mr. D just kept on saying things that would want Melody to change her mind and not take the test but she would respond back and that was a change for Moldy. Also Catherine stood up for Melody and she said that by law Melody would not be excluded from the test and Mr. D let her do the test and ended up with a perfect score and that proved Mr. D wrong. I really like those few paragraphs because Melody finally got the courage to stand up for her self. Catherine knew what was going on and she got in and said a few thing to stand up for Melody and that showed that they were working together. I think that Catherine and Melody have a great friendship and get along really well. That is why I chose this chapter.

  4. Rose was being a little mean to Melody when she walked into Mr. D's classroom. Rose says, "What are you doing here?"She sort of said it in an
unfriendly way, like she didn't think Melody could do it. I would be happy for Melody that she is trying out. Why would Rose be mean to Melody? I thought they were friends.

The thing is though Rose sort of stands up for Melody. When Claire accused Meoldy of cheating (AGAIN) Rose says, "Why are you worried about Melody?" and "Are you scared that she'll get a higher score than you?" Could Rose change in a snap? I think Rose s a little embarressed to be friends with Melody. She changes pesonality quickly, too. She will be telling Melody something and then when someone calls Rose over somewhere, she will run away and never come back.

  5. In chapter 20, Mr. Dimming is still not a very nice (encouraging) person toward Melody. For example, when Melody was going to take the test, Mr. Dimming seemed so surprised that she actually wanted to. I was shocked when I heard Mr. Dimming say, "this is not a recreational activity just for fun" to melody. I would think that by now Mr. Dimming would know that Melody is brilliant inside and more capable than him for sure. In my opinion, I think that Mr. Dimming is mean to melody because of how smart she is. He probably feels that a non "normal" person like Melody shouldn't be capable of what she is capable of and is embarassed to have her on the team. In addition, i don't think that Mr. Dimming is a good teacher at all because teachers are supposed to encourage you and want you to become smarter and Mr. Dimming is always finding a way to put Melody down. I flagged this passage because it got me so mad toward Mr. Dimming and made me realize how unfit he is for his job.

  6. In chapter 20 when melody came in to try out for the quiz team and claire said "she can't be on the team she is from the retard class" I thought this was meaningful because I feel melodys anger against clair is building and building and I think it will finally explode and melody will some how get in trouble. And Ithink it will have a big impact on her.

  7. Several important things happen in chapter twenty. First Melody was very nervous all day because of the Whiz Kids test that day. At lunch she spilled tomatoes soup all over her shirt and she is embarrassed that she will be made fun of even more at tryouts. Another important event was when Melody went into Mr.D’s room to take the test, when she walked in Mr.D was surprised she was even there taking the test and so were all the other kids. Before the test Claire was making fun of Melody yet again and finally this time Rose stood up for Melody. Catherine left the room before the test began so they would know Melody wasn’t cheating. Melody thought she did ok on the test and mentioned it to her Mom that day. Over the chapter an important part of the story took place.
